Freedom House: More Evidence of Haiti's Media Freedom Improvement

In the previous blog, Haiti's press freedom was discussed. According to the Worldwide Press Freedom Index, the country of Haiti, specifically its government, was beginning to respect the freedom of its media. More evidence of this has been found on the Freedom House website as well. A study, Freedom of the Press 2007: A Global Survey of Media Independence, revealed that, while press freedom in multiple countries had decreased, the press freedom in Haiti and a few other countries had increased. The study attributed this improvement to "greater overall political openness and an improved security environment."

The study also mentions that internet access in some countries is still severely restricted. This doesn't seem to be an issue in Haiti. Residents in Haiti say there is access to internet, however it is very slow. Access Haiti, an internet provider in Haiti, provides high speed internet connection to Haitian residents.

This is good news for Haiti. Hopefully, Haiti's media can continue to improve.
